I came across an interesting problem earlier today: a faculty member’s Lenovo laptop wouldn’t load up Drexel’s AnyConnect VPN software, stating “VPN Service not available” before quitting out. The only temporary solution was to uninstall and reinstall the VPN software. Turns out, it’s an issue with Lenovo’s RapidBoot software, which delays certain pieces of software from loading immediately after booting to give the appearance of a faster boot.
The solution? Simple. Go to Control Panel -> Uninstall a program, and look for either RapidBoot or Lenovo RapidBoot. Uninstall that, reboot, and voila — the AnyConnect software works as expected. The fix came from Sophos’ support site, although the problem may not be specific to computers with Sophos installed.
